AGSI In The Community - October 23, 2008
With the overwhelming success of last year's AGSI's Canadian X-Country Championship, AGSI will once again sponsor the next event to be held on November 29, 2008 in Guelph. Chris Cameron, a former competitive runner, and the CEO and President of AGSI stated "We are extremely pleased to support our great athletes as well as the Nationals and hope that our contributions help our Canadian teams excel on the worldwide podium."

. . . .The lack of funding in Canadian Amateur sport has been a hot topic for many years and the sport of Cross Country has not been immune to cut backs. In general, a good team performance at a Championship event warrants greater funding, whereas a poor performance earns less funding for future teams. When athletes have to give up their spots on the national team due to financial reasons it weakens the team and sets in motion a downward spiral. If Canada could send the first six athletes across the line at the Canadian Cross Country championships it would be sending a much stronger team. For this potential to come to fruition the costs of going to a continental or world championship have to be reduced and with the commitment of AGSI this possibility is becoming a reality. . .
